Brisbane Wedding Photographer – Best of 2018

Hello, Matt here.

2018 was one crazy year!

Déus Photography is now a thing of the past, Light Pictures was born. It was a forced name and branding change really, but so be it, I like our new handle!

I will be hones thought, it greatly impacted us a lot. After the previous year of being booked to capacity for the first time, that all of a sudden got flipped on it’s head and 2018 has, well, been a real struggle – we have just kept things alive. We basically had to start a new business from scratch with only our experience and portfolio to bring along – a very soul challenging time.  I can also tell you that single-handedly managing a business whilst looking after 2 young kids part of every week sure keeps my hands full…and can push things to it’s limits!

I love my two tykes Louis and Layla so much. It’s amazing being able to do what I do, being able to be a work at home dad, being able to spend time with them in these precious years, It’s perfect! So all things considered, I’ve decided to drop my hours for all this crazy Photography stuff down to part time…for a while. 🙂

The hugely positive side of 2018 meant I have had the privilege of trust from many amazing couples, traveled to some beautiful parts of our country, been a part of some extremely amazing days…one month recently I drove 4000+km’s!

Looking back, my work sure has come a long way since my first wedding around 9 years ago. I really am proud of what I have accomplished, and with everything that has been going on. I’m proud of what I have to show off from what really isn’t a heap of weddings, but the memories I have given to all my love birds out there in marriage bliss makes me smile the most.

Thanks to everyone in my life for your support. Big thanks to my sister Hannah, who had a baby only a few months ago – I’m looking forward to you shooting along side me again when you can! Thank you to my brother Damien for moving interstate and in with me, having you here as a friend and for support has meant the world to me. Thanks to my mate Pete Oakman, my 2nd shooter, road trip partner and general partner in crime, your support and help and talent has been priceless…a fair few of the pics belong to you bud!
I also want to thank “The World”, for Symmetry, kisses, dresses, shoes, Fuji, talent, Love!

Oh, and who could forget my wonderful Mum! Love you Mum.

2018 has been a fun ride, challenging, but trust me, I remind myself every day of how lucky I am to be able to do what I do, and to have been blessed with such an awesome family.

I am eagerly looking forward to 2019 with my chin up and hope in my heart. Everyone spread the word, we are not going anywhere and I/we want to be a part of more wonderful journeys, for years to come!

Below are a bunch of snapshots in time, all from REAL weddings. They all tell a story and bring back amazing memories, and I think they all belong on a wall…..somewhere.

There are some beautiful locations up above that’s for sure, but if you are planning a wedding or know someone who is, have a look at a great feature we have done on Venues in Byron Bay, just over HERE.

Byron Bay Wedding Photographer – Mark and Stephie – a few frames..

Byron Bay Wedding Photographer – Toowoomba Wedding – Mark and Stephie

What a way to finish the year, with a New Years Eve wedding!

Stephie and Mark married each other out in the stunning Gabbinbar Estate in rural Brisbane, Toowoomba.

Such romance and excitement. Stephie was doing nervous squats most of the time right up until she climbed into that stunning dress.

There were clouds, sunshine, then rain, the perfect amount of romance the gods could cram into one day.

Proud father in arm lock, Steph walked down the aisle with the hugest grin on her face. Mark was awe-struck….and fair enough, Stephie was glowing with excitement and looked just stunning!

They said their emotional with a touch of giggles vows, kissed, were showered with rose petals as they walked back down the aisle, then rode off on a horse drawn carriage to take in the beauty of the estate and have some time for them, as a couple that just became one.

When they returned they drink champagne, play croquet, then partied the night away in style with amazing food, wine and live music.

There were fireworks at midnight welcoming in 2018, and them into their new life together as husband and wife. Stephs dad, with tear in eye, hugged his daughter so tightly…under a sky full of light.

The day and night was one I will never forget.

Thanks for having me and my insatiable 2nd shooter Pete along on your New Years Eve rollercoaster ride in the beautiful Toowoomba, what a pleasure and an honour!

Here are a handful of my picks of the day.

Many more to come soon.

Toowoomba Wedding Photography – Dom and Sarah – teasers

Toowoomba Wedding Photography – Dom and Sarah – teasers

I love these two, Dom and Sarah, such lovely people. I can say I’ve had a few drinks with them now, on a few occasions, and anyone who can handle chatting to me for long periods of time is cool in my books.

SO this was my first trip out to Toowoomba (being a Sydney boy originally) and so I didn’t quite know what to expect. Maybe a little country town, lots of hills, cows, the odd gum tree..

But then I guess this Gabbinbar Homestead place actually isn’t very typical of anywhere I have been, besides maybe in the South of France somewhere. What a spectacular venue! So immaculate, so huge, so well looked after and such great helpful staff. I wandered around for hours discovering little spots thinking of taking pics later. Of course we didn’t get to fit them all in, but we did our best. I hope to go back one day and finish that off!

Anyway, Sarah married Dom, in fantasy land, in “The Woods” actually, in front of the most amazing floral backdrop I have ever seen, well done Amanda from Deans, the whole place just looked stunning.

They danced under fireworks, drank champagne all night, never stopped kissing the whole day, and now they will be together forever.

I sincerely wish you guys all the best in love and life, but it seems you will be fine.

Thanks to my good mate and fabulous 2nd shooter Pete Oakman for coming along and taking a huge load off.

A few teasers here, so many to choose from, but just these for now….

Brisbane Wedding Photography – Adrian and Monica – a few frames

Brisbane Wedding Photography – Adrian and Monica – a few frames

Rain is romance.  The way these two look at each other is contagious, in Love.

Just a few of my faves from the beautiful rainy day Brisbane country wedding of Adrian and Monica, at the beautiful Brockhurst Farm in Ocean View.

Yes the page boy, with rings in hand, broke out into a dance in the middle of a verse reading, much to the embarrassment of the flower girls!

Monica and Adrian got hitched in Gum boots!

Thanks for having me along for the ride guys!

More to come soon.

Coffs Harbour Wedding Photography – James and Tanya

Coffs Harbour Wedding Photography – Aanuka Beach and Villa Vivante

Tanya and James met backstage at Glastonbury 9 years ago. James immediately knew she was the one!

I love love.

Last weekend they were married in a very beautiful part of the world. A beach wedding in Coffs harbour at Aanuka Beach and then a huge party all night long up in Villa Vivante, a stunning spot up a very steep winding driveway all the way to the top of Coffs, literally, and one of the most spectacular views I have ever seen.

More of that when you see the whole wedding, and some of the best Coffs Harbour wedding photography I have seen, but for now an eagerly awaited few pics of the day.

Also a big thanks to Torsten Baumann my wing man, for driving the 6 hours from Brisbane to help out, Peta from North Coast Luxury Weddings for overseeing and organising a lot of the day and Fiasco Catering for the delicious food.

Brisbane Wedding Photography – UQ Wedding Photos

Brisbane Wedding Photography – Grant and Monica – Ukrainian Catholic Church, University of Queensland and Hillstone St. Lucia

Just a few of my favourites from an awesome day of Brisbane wedding photography on the weekend. Grant and Monica, two love birds, soul mates and all round cool cats, allowed me the privilege of being a part of their special day.

I always love a bride who wears Karen Willis Holmes and her classic dress went perfectly with the gorgeous UQ Great Court as a backdrop for some bridal party photos.

Enjoy your sneak peek and I look forward to sharing your full wedding day story very shortly.
